The role
You will work as a Sports and Wellbeing Apprentice. You will be required to complete a training programme that will cover all aspects of the role and will be delivered through in-house and external training, as well as day-release or other distance learning methods delivered by a recognised educational/training institution.
College or University attendance and successful completion of these studies is an essential requirement of this Apprenticeship, together with the requirement to complete the practical day-to-day tasks assigned to this role.
Apprentice Responsibilities:
To undertake the following duties under direct supervision:
- To identify priority neighbourhoods where sports and wellbeing development sessions need to be organised.
- To assist the Community Investment Manager in developing and delivering a varied range of sporting and health-related activities for targeted age groups.
- To assist in the planning and delivery of safe and structured sessions.
- To develop and work in partnerships with other sports clubs and groups to maximise sports participation and take advantage of shared resources.
- To raise public awareness of health and fitness issues and promote participation in sport, particularly among underrepresented groups and communities.
- To work with young people from a range of backgrounds and with a range of needs.
- To assist in the development of sports provision in designated communities and/ or with target groups.
- To assist in the provision of administrative support to the programme.
- To assist in creating structured links with local sports clubs and help establish junior sections and coaching education initiatives.
- To try and establish annual sports competitions/tournaments and Awards events.
- To assist in the provision of guidance and support to young leaders and volunteers.
- To attend learning and development activities both in-house and with external training providers.
- Engaging with and participating in the day-to-day activities of the Community Investment Team, but also learning about other aspects of the company.
- To participate and attend events when required out of hours during weekends and evenings.
Other standard Duties
- Observing health and safety procedures.
- Completing all tests, presentations, and other required evaluations.
- Working in the office and travelling to other sites when required.
- Positively receiving feedback.
- Attending meetings and offering suggestions for improvement.
- Keeping a log of everything learned.
- Building professional relationships with colleagues and clients.
- Undertake any additional duties commensurate with the grade of the post.
Apprentice Requirements:
- Minimum 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above including English and Maths.
- Driver’s license required.
- Good time management, critical, and interpersonal skills.
- Able to demonstrate an aptitude for the skills taught in the Apprenticeship (for example through work experience, qualifications or references)
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- A growth mindset and passion for learning.
- Experience of Microsoft Applications
- To carry out any other duties that may be reasonably requested.

Training
This level 3 apprenticeship training programme develops the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to support and empower the local community to live healthier, happier lives. The broad purpose of the occupation is to work in partnership with individuals and their communities to identify and address health and well-being needs, improve health, prevent ill health and reduce inequalities. It is suitable for people working in healthcare, community or voluntary settings in job roles such as care or service navigator, community connector, community health champion, health trainer, live well coach, and social prescribing link worker. On completion, you will be awarded a Level 3 in Community Health and Well-being
Over the duration of 16 months, you will receive a combination of online training and support.
As part of the apprenticeship, alongside your job role, a minimum of 6 hours per week of your time in work must be dedicated to improving new skills, knowledge and behaviours.
