This Christmas season, residents came together for a truly special celebration — one that captured the very best of what makes our community strong: kindness, connection, and shared joy.
Organised by the Anchor Court Tenants Association, the event welcomed neighbours from a range of backgrounds and faiths, including Muslim, Christian, and Jewish residents and guests. It was a powerful reminder that while we may have different traditions, we can all come together around the same values: respect, warmth, and looking out for one another.
A highlight of the day was the wonderful performance by children from Dixon Primary School, whose singing brought smiles to every corner of the room. Alongside the music, there were activities for families and children, creating a lively, welcoming atmosphere where everyone felt included.
But perhaps the most memorable part of the celebration was the food. Residents proudly brought dishes that reflected their cultures and heritage — and everyone was encouraged to try a little of everything. Tables quickly filled with an incredible variety of flavours, and as plates were shared, so were stories, laughter, and new friendships. It wasn’t just a meal — it was a moment of togetherness.
We also received lovely feedback from guests from the Leeds Jewish Housing Association, who spoke warmly about the friendly welcome, the delightful singing, and the delicious food. Their comments reflected what many people felt: this was the kind of event that leaves you uplifted and hopeful.
Thank you to everyone who helped organise the day, performed, cooked, shared, and joined in. Events like this show what community really means — not just living near each other, but supporting one another and celebrating what makes us unique.
We also marked the start of Hanukkah on Sunday, 14 December, gifting our Jewish guests traditional doughnuts as a small token of celebration and friendship
Here’s to more moments like this in the year ahead.
